SHOCK WAVE 2: WHERE DO I BEGIN

You have received a diagnosis and you feel overwhelmed.  You don’t  know where to begin or how to proceed.  How do you settle your racing thoughts.  How do you find your inner peace and strength ? 

Go within so you can go without. These exercises will help you center yourself in the present moment and get out of your automatic negative thoughts.  

Set a simple routine every day

Get up. Wear your favorite clothes. Do your usual morning routine.

Begin to reorganize your weekly schedule to accommodate changes in work, clinic appointments, etc. Create a simple daily schedule and stick to it. 

Meditation

Go to your space for your 30 minutes of meditation with circle breathing. Light a candle. Focus on your breath.

NAMING 

This exercise will brings you into the present moment.  When you feel fear and anxiety start naming out loud everything you see. Also name the colors. Your brain can only focus one thought at time.  This helps stop the negative and fearful thoughts. And it will brings you into the present moment. 

Nature  

Go out for a walk daily…Take in the beauty of nature whether it be in your backyard or neighborhood.  Name all the beautiful things you see. 

This will focus your attention to see all the detail in nature. 

Gratitude Journal

Start a gratitude journal.  Write down five things you are grateful for every day.  Focus on all your gifts and blessings every day.
